My name is Tracie Thompson. I'm a professional fine artist -- I draw, paint in oils and pastels, and make folktale-like sculptures from discarded things I find. Animal portraits (dogs, cats and horses) are a specialty; if you'd like to commission one, just drop me a line at my blog, see my website or find me on Twitter or Facebook.
Finished this about 2 hours ago. My reference photo is at the lower right. Adorable, but not a great shot — a bit blurry, quite dim, and the lens distorted his ears, nose, and size of head relative to neck and body. But this horse, a Shire stallion, is no longer with us, so I worked with what I had. I do this a lot for clients whose animals have passed away.
Lower left is the portrait in progress, and you can see some of the corrections I made. Finished piece is 11 x 8”, pencils, watercolor, pastels and touches of white acrylic on kraft colored cotton rag paper.
